Imagine the scene: almost 2000 years ago, when an atomic mushroom of ash, dust and rocks, 12 miles high in the sky, escaped from Vesuvius. In the following hours it seemed like it was heavily snowing on Pompei. Then there was the eruption. A hot avalanche of rocks and ashes ran along the side of the mountain at 100 miles per hour. Pompei and the residents were buried leaving their bodies enclosed in volcanic debris. As natural as it was, the bodies decomposed leaving empty spaces inside them. Centuries later, archaeologists filled those spaces with liquid plaster and … were immediately able to know how the ancient Pompeians had lived, admired the degree of civil progress and the artistic skills that had reached important levels already so many years ago. The great work of archaeologists represents the heritage of information left to future generations of the 18th century and beyond. The tour continues towards Vesuvius: the itinerary that will take you to the top of Mount Vesuvius passes through a national park of rare beauty, pine forests and lush forests, bright yellow flowers and a perturbing volcanic landscape, a breathtaking view of the Bay of Naples . A unique day full of culture and landscape.
